This week Damian signed the Holocaust Educational Trust’s Book of Commitment, pledging his support for Holocaust Memorial Day.
This year also marks 75 years since the liberation of the concentration camps across Europe and the end of the Second World War, with people across the world coming together on January 27th, the anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz-Birkenau, to remember those who died but also to pay tribute to the extraordinary survivors who have worked tirelessly to educate young people.
Damian said:
“This Holocaust Memorial Day, we reflect with deep sadness that it has never been more important to remind ourselves of the terrible depths of which people are capable in man’s inhumanity to man. I commend our local schools, and the Holocaust Educational Trust on their work to ensure we never forget.”
The theme for this years’ commemorations is ‘Stand Together’ and thousands of events are being arranged by schools, faith groups and community organisations, ensuring that as the Holocaust moves from living history, to history, we take time to honour the six million Jewish victims who perished.
