Damian sends a letter of support for the Alton Climate Alliance rally being held on the 28th November.
Damain said:
"Climate change is one of the most critical agendas for people and organisations right across the world and I applaud the effort of those involved in the Alton Climate Alliance in organising this rally as it demonstrates how important this issue remains for local communities up and down the country.
"The UK is working closely with other countries to secure an ambitious global climate change agreement in Paris this December, one which keeps the goal of limiting global warming to 2⁰C above pre-industrial levels firmly in reach.
"The UK was instrumental in agreeing the European Union’s target to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by at least 40% by 2030 from 1990 levels, which is amongst the most ambitious pledges made ahead of December’s summit.
"The Prime Minister announced on 27 September that we will be committing £5.8bn of ‘climate finance’ over the period 2016-21 to support low-carbon development in developing countries, and to help some of the world’s poorest communities adapt to the effects of climate change.
"So, the UK government remains committed to the process and supports the efforts to secure a global climate change agreement in Paris this December.
"I would like to wish you well for your rally on the 28th November and thank everyone taking part; your efforts really do make a difference and it’s great to see Alton put on the climate change map. Well done!"
