Last night Damian was appointed as Minister of State for schools at the Department for Education, as part of the Prime Minister’s reshuffle of his Ministerial team.
Damian said: "It has been my privilege to serve as a Justice Minister and to work with the ‘hidden heroes’ of the Prison and Probation service, but I am delighted to be returning to DfE. Education has always been my first passion and the schools brief is obviously at the heart of that. From my previous time in the department, I know one of the best things is getting out and about to schools to see first hand the amazing work done by our inspirational teachers, including here in East Hampshire, and I’m very much looking forward to that.”
Damian leaves the Ministry of Justice where he has been Minister of State for prisons and probation for just over a year. He replaces Nick Gibb MP at DfE, who was the longstanding previous holder of the schools portfolio.
