As part of a series of short videos promoting the many reasons to visit and enjoy East Hampshire, Damian’s latest one is all about the local brewing, distillery and wine sector.

Brewing and vineyards - #4 video

Hattingley Wines in Upper Wield is one of the UK’s most successful wineries, producing award-winning still and sparkling wine that is enjoyed in restaurants across the UK, and exported to many other countries.

Wine production is fast becoming a key sector across the South East of England, with many vineyards offering tours, tasting and events for people to enjoy.
See the listing below for more details.

Brewing beer has been an important part of our local heritage, and today we are seeing the growth of micro and nano breweries, including Triple fff in Four Marks and The Brewhouse at Gilbert White’s House in Selborne. There are many others in the local area. The listing below has more information and links.

And close to Alton we also have Mr Whitehead’s Cider Company, which produces more than 500,000 litres of cider, juice and vinegar each year.

Small scale spirit production is also growing, with local companies such as the Hogmoor Distillery in Bordon, Gorilla Spirits in Upton Grey and Red.h in Liphook, each making their own distinct spirits and offering opportunities for people to come and try them for themselves.
Details for other distilleries in the area are listed below.

And finally, there are more and more events dedicated to the enjoyment of specialist brews, spirits and wines, including the recent return of the Alton Beer Festival and the up-coming Petersfield Oktoberfest in September.
Details of these and other events coming are included in the listing below.

Another blow to hospitality?

Thursday, 17 July, 2025
In last week’s column, I mentioned a debate I recently attended on the hospitality sector.  This felt like an important debate to be part of for several of reasons.    Hospitality is a major contributor to the UK’s economy and jobs, which makes the government’s decision to omit i
