The employment rate remains at a record high at 74.1%, with 31.4 million people in work - figures welcomed by Damian today.
The total number of unemployed claimants in East Hampshire is now 350, which is 40 lower than a year ago and 70% lower that March 2010. This gives the constituency the 620th lowest claimant rate in the country out of a total of 650.
Damian said:
“The UK economy continues to create more jobs, with 80% of the annual rise coming from full-time employment, and wages continue to rise – up by 2.2% over the year. The introduction of the National Living Wage means over a million are this month getting a pay rise; a welcome boost to the incomes of families right across the country.
“Work is at the heart of our welfare reforms and the Government is committed to ensuring everyone benefits from the strong economy and the opportunities it brings.”
