Damian Hinds has praised local firm Powertraveller for their innovative work in personal micro power generation. The Alton firm’s product range includes long-life battery storage packs, hand-held solar panels weighing from just 88g, wind-up dynamo batteries and portable mini wind turbines.
Powertraveller products have many applications, with established customers in police and military support, conservation, medical, commercial business and outdoor & adventure sports. High-profile users have included Ranulph Fiennes, Charley Boorman and Andy McNab.
Meeting Powertraveller CEO, Jerry Ranger, local MP Damian Hinds was especially interested to hear about the potential in developing countries. Computers and mobile phones are starting to transform connectivity, education and even finances in what we used to call the Third World – but often a simple lack of power inhibits progress. A similar problem can beset immunisation programmes where vaccines have to be kept refrigerated.
Damian said:
“It is incredibly impressive to see these products which have the potential to do so much good in so many spheres. Personal micro power generation could be a real breakthrough for some of the poorest places in the world. I am delighted that we have the world leader in this field right here in East Hampshire.”
CEO Jerry Ranger said:
“With more and more mobile devices being taken “off-grid”, the requirement for mobile power has never been greater. By utilising our knowledge and feedback from outdoor professionals, we are able to design, develop and manufacture performance-rich products using the latest technologies in power generation. This allows real users out in the field to keep their essential devices charged and therefore the ability to keep working.”
