Damian is recruiting for two positions within his parliamentary team. The first is a Senior Parliamentary Assistant position, with a focus on constituency work, and the second is a Parliamentary Assistant role with a focus on casework and correspondence.

Job title:  Senior Parliamentary Assistant  

Location: London / flexible 

Salary: Dependent on experience and in line with IPSA pay scales: link  

Job Details:   

Damian is looking for a Senior Parliamentary Assistant to join his team, with a particular focus on constituency work.  Flexible working options are possible, to attract the right candidate. Flexibility could include working partly from home or working part-time. 

Key responsibilities:  

  • Local communication activity 

  • Managing constituency projects and diary 

  • Maintaining relations with key constituency-based stakeholders 

  • Wider team support, which may include correspondence and briefing support. 


Detailed job description: 

  • Constituency project work & project management  

  • Management of constituency-related diary commitments  

  • Proactive and re-active communications with local media 

  • Responsibility for issuing press releases, online content and overseeing the MP website 

  • Maintaining positive on-going relationships with constituency-based organisations, institutions and groups 

  • Ownership of certain correspondence areas 

  • Produce briefings on relevant subjects   


What we are looking for in a candidate: 

  • Excellent organisational and interpersonal skills 

  • Communications experience desirable 

  • The ability to work independently  

  • Attention to detail, discretion and confidentiality   

  • Impeccable written English 

  • Proficiency in the use of Microsoft systems   

  • A good level of local knowledge is valuable 

  • A strong public service ethic  

  • Previous Parliamentary experience is not essential 

 

Job title:  Parliamentary Assistant (full-time) 

Location: London  

Salary: Dependent on experience and in line with IPSA pay scales: link  

Job Details:   

Damian is seeking an empathetic individual with a strong public service ethos to assist him with constituent casework and correspondence and to provide wider support to his office/team.   


Key responsibilities:  

  • dealing with a large volume of individual casework and correspondence  

  • developing and maintaining knowledge in relevant policy areas 

  • general office admin 


Detailed job description: 

  • Progress routine casework with minimal supervision  

  • Respond to routine correspondence from constituents with minimal supervision  

  • Maintain knowledge in policy areas required to reply to frequent topics of policy correspondence and casework issues 

  • Open post and distribute to other team members as appropriate  

  • Act as primary point of contact for incoming phone calls, referring callers to other team members as appropriate 

  • Assist other members of the team with more complex casework or policy correspondence (e.g. by gathering relevant information) 

  • Deputise in relation to parliamentary admin in absence of Office Manager/Senior Parliamentary Assistant   

  • Undertake research on relevant subjects as directed  

  • Prepare briefing notes, for example for constituency meetings and surgery appointments  

  • Attend and participate in meetings as appropriate  

  • Provide generalist admin support, including the booking of public gallery access, tours and PMQs’ tickets for constituents    


What we are looking for in a candidate: 

  • Strong organisation skills  

  • The ability to work as an individual quickly and efficiently 

  • Attention to detail, discretion and confidentiality   

  • Impeccable written English 

  • Strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to deal with challenging telephone calls    

  • Proficiency in the use of MS Outlook and Word.    

  • A good level of local knowledge is valuable 

  • Previous Parliamentary experience is not essential. 

Damian will consider requests for flexible working. If this is of interest, it can be discussed at interview stage.
