Damian has visited Electronic Media Services, the Liphook-based designer, developer and manufacturer of communications solutions for businesses, to hear about its development of overseas markets and in particular the initiatives the company is taking in Asia.
In Asia Pacific, internet usage is growing at 76% per year and by 2017 will account for 47% of the global mobile data traffic.
EMS’s award-winning range of i-MO OptiBond routers have helped businesses in a range of markets to solve connectivity issues that would otherwise hamper everyday tasks such as email communications.
Damian was also able to meet Charlie West, who is currently undergoing an apprenticeship at the company.
Andrew Lambert, CEO of EMS, said:
“We have targeted a number of overseas markets where our UK designed and manufactured communications products can play a key role in helping businesses get a fast and reliable Internet connection where traditional fixed wire connectivity is not available.
“We have been delighted that this year the support from UK Trade and Investment has enabled EMS to participate in the CeBIT and CommunicAsia conferences. South East Asia is a key growth area for us, particularly in the regions where fixed line infrastructure is poor and unreliable; leased lines can be very expensive and the growth of mobile base stations has been explosive.”
Damian Hinds said:
“I am delighted that a local business is leading the way in this part of the communications solutions field; it was great to visit EMS and see first-hand the fantastic products that it is exporting around the world. High-growth businesses like EMS really are the lifeblood of our local economy, and provide valuable services and employment opportunities to local residents like Charlie.
“I was glad to hear of the support that the company has received from the UKTI and the Government Apprentice Scheme. I hope to see more of the initiatives introduced by the government, such as the “one in, two out” approach to regulation, help local businesses to thrive in the same way that EMS is.”
