The Highways Agency have announced welcome news that resurfacing work between Butser Hill and the Ham Barn roundabout has been fast tracked, with work now due in March this year. As well as ensuring the road is in a safe and serviceable condition, this resurfacing material boasts noise reducing properties of up to 3 decibels.
As well as this section of the A3, Damian Hinds has confirmed with Highways that an indicative resurfacing programme between Grayshott and Liphook is also on the agenda. It is hoped this work will start in the financial year 2015/16.
Local businessman, Gavin Sandeman, welcomed this development, saying:
“This is exciting news. Since the road was built traffic has exceeded projections and with the current surface, noise has reached very intrusive levels.”
Councillor Ferris Cowper, County Councillor for Grayshott, Headley and Bramshott and Liphook commented:
“Local residents in Grayshott, Bramshott and Liphook have suffered worsening traffic noise since the Tunnel was opened, with garden conversations up to half a mile away drowned. So as their County Councillor, I’m delighted that there is now a solution in sight.”
East Hampshire’s MP, Damian Hinds said:
"Noise pollution from the A3 is a serious issue, even more so since the increase in traffic that followed the opening of the Hindhead tunnel. It is good to see that the Highways Agency have taken this on board and are taking action to make life quieter for residents living near the A3."
