The Government’s new Housing Bill will set out changes aimed at helping more people today, and in the future, realise the dream of home ownership. New measures in the Bill will extend the Right to Buy to up to 1.3 million housing association tenants, as well as make provision for more discounted homes for first time buyers.
In East Hampshire there are up to 5,780 housing association tenants that could benefit from this. In the coming months, tenants will be able to register their interest in buying their homes at a discount. Homes sold will be replaced with new affordable ones. Since 2012 £730 million in sales receipts from Right To Buy have been reinvested in affordable house building; this is expected to rise to a total of £2.4 billion over the next two years.
