Discover East Hampshire

Damian is taking the opportunity to highlight some of the wonderful places and events here in East Hampshire that not only make it a fantastic place to live but also to visit.

The second in a series of videos, Damian talks about some of the amazing walking trails, paths and events that locals and visitors to the area can enjoy.  .

Walking - Video #2

Straddling the South Downs National Park, we have on our doorstep a fantastic choice of walks and paths, both inside and outside the park.

There is the 100 mile South Downs Way, stretching all the way from Winchester to Eastbourne, the 65 mile Serpent Trail that ends in Petersfield and meanders through some of the rare Healthlands and most spectacular countryside in the South East, and of course the 50 mile Shipwrights Way that charts the route of the timber taken from Alice Holt Forest to the historic dockyards in Portsmouth

There are numerous paths across the Queen Elizabeth Country Park, just south of Petersfield, and the wonderful Writer’s Way that links Alton to surrounding villages that were home to our most famous literary residents – Jane Austen at Chawton and Gilbert White in Selbourne.

And there are many, many more, and you will find details for these on my website via the link below, but coming up in a few days is the start of the annual Alton Walking Festival – recognised as one of the best in the country, with more than 100 walks on offer across the month of May.

The inaugural Petersfield Walking Festival is also due to take place in August, and more information on the walks and booking process will be published soon.
