Damian was delighted to be invited to the recent Dementia Walking Football tournament in Petersfield, in memory of Jeff Williams, a local dementia campaigner. Despite the inclement weather, the four teams battled hard, with Winchester Walking Football coming out on top.
Speaking after the tournament, Damian said:
“The tournament was a huge highlight for me and I was honoured to present the winners’ trophy. It was so apt that the ‘Jeff Williams’ trophy was so called. I learnt a lot from Jeff over the years about service, community and the importance of giving something back, and the tournament embodied all of these qualities. His will be a lasting legacy.”
The event was raising money for the Dementia Walking Football Group and was organised by Right at Home Care, Dementia Friendly Petersfield, Petersfield FC and Jonno Ratcliffe (from Active8). The organisers have so far raised £1,500, including an impressive £1,000 from the Mayor of Petersfield, JC Crissey, who has been fundraising for the charity.
