I recently popped in to Wey Valley Radio to talk about the New Directions event at Alton College. With two weeks to go until New Directions opens its doors, it's time to book your free tickets if you haven't already done so: New Directions | Eventbrite.
If you haven't heard of New Directions, it's an employment fair for anybody looking for a career change, local volunteering opportunities or advice about a new business venture. It's free to get into and there's a Community First bus running throughout the day to get you to Alton College from anywhere in East Hampshire. The following workshops and speaker events are already confirmed and over 70 local businesses and charities will be running stands throughout the day:

Business Volunteering - find out from former Paralympian Ryan Gratrix, of GRX Life, on the benefits of business volunteering.
Back to work support - hear from Simon Lanaway from FedCap, about how to get ready for work (this includes practical help with job applications and interview preparation).
Apprenticeships - Sarah Burch, apprenticeships advisor, will talk about the benefits of taking on an apprenticeship.
Start Up School for Seniors - Mark Elliott and Suzanne Noble will discuss what is required to start your own business.
Join the Army Reserves - a representative from The British Army will be talking about the benefits of joining the Army Reserves.
WORKSHOPS
Interview Skills – How to build resilience - Kate Dean, an HSDC advisor, will talk about how to build resilience and confidence in interview preparation.
CV writing support - Lisa James at Abri will help you get your CV ready for job hunting.
Business on a page - Mark Elliott and Suzanne Noble, from Start Up Schools for Seniors, will run a session on business planning.
Multiply your skills – Maths skills for adults - Rachel Robinson from Hampshire County Council will talk about free maths support for adults aged 19 and over.
This is going to be a fantastic event with so many local employers, trainers and voluntary groups on hand to talk to you about the many opportunities they have. It's definitely not one to miss.
